Definitions for the fields that give MTConnect equipment observations consistent meaning.
Why DataItem definitions matter
DataItem metadata documents what an observation means, how it is represented, and where it belongs in an equipment model. Consumers can use that context when mapping data into monitoring, analytics, or integration workflows.
- DataItem
- A model element that describes an observation a piece of equipment can provide.
- Type
- The controlled-vocabulary term that states what a DataItem represents, such as AVAILABILITY or TEMPERATURE.
- Subtype
- An optional controlled-vocabulary term that narrows the meaning of a Type when the standard defines that distinction.
- Category
- The observation class assigned to a DataItem: SAMPLE, EVENT, or CONDITION.
- Units
- The engineering units used for a numeric observation when units apply.
- Native units
- The units supplied by the source before an adapter or agent applies conversion.
- Representation
- The value structure for a DataItem, such as a scalar value, time series, or data set.
- Constraints
- Model metadata that limits or describes allowed values for a DataItem.
- Source
- Model metadata that identifies the originating tag, address, or other source reference for a DataItem.
