Core terms

MTConnect®
An open standard that defines a semantic model and XML-based protocol for manufacturing equipment data.
Adapter
Software or a device that acquires equipment data and sends observations to an MTConnect agent.
Agent
Software that maintains the device model and observation buffer, then serves MTConnect response documents.
Device model
The structured description of a device, its components, and the data items associated with those components.Explore the information model.
DataItem

Streams
The MTConnect response document that groups timestamped observations by device and component.
Sample
A DataItem category for numeric values that may vary continuously, such as temperature or position.
Event
A DataItem category for discrete states or values, such as execution state or part count.
Condition
A DataItem category used to communicate the operating health or fault state of equipment.
