- MTConnect®
- An open standard that defines a semantic model and XML-based protocol for manufacturing equipment data.
- Adapter
- Software or a device that acquires equipment data and sends observations to an MTConnect agent.
- Agent
- Software that maintains the device model and observation buffer, then serves MTConnect response documents.
- Device model

- DataItem

- Streams
- The MTConnect response document that groups timestamped observations by device and component.
- Sample
- A DataItem category for numeric values that may vary continuously, such as temperature or position.
- Event
- A DataItem category for discrete states or values, such as execution state or part count.
- Condition
- A DataItem category used to communicate the operating health or fault state of equipment.
